Why do People Detox?
You’ve heard your health nut friend mention she’s going to detox again, but you’re not sure what that entails? Detoxification is the removal of excess waste from your body, a method of purification. Once you’ve detoxified your body, you’ll feel lighter, cleaner, and healthier.Why do you need to detox? You come in contact with all kinds of toxins as you go about your regular routine. Think about it: depending on where you live, you may have to deal with smoke, smog, chemicals, pesticides, alcohol, preservatives, and a variety of body-function clogging foods. Our bodies end up stressed as they try to filter these contaminants through our kidneys and liver, and then try to eliminate excess waste products. Detoxification is like using a natural form of liquid plumber to remove impurities from your system and get your pipes clean and open. Now you’re wondering how people actually use a detox program. It’s best to try to improve your external environment by getting away from smoke, renting or buying an air purifier for your home, drinking purified water, and limiting alcohol, caffeine, sugar, and fat consumption. Fast from everything but organic fruit and vegetables while detoxing; this will give your body a break from heavy foods and artificial addidtives. Make sure you stay well-hydrated, drinking plenty of tea and water. What can you do to encourage regularity? Try drinking a lot of water and senna tea, which will help your kidneys filter out waste products and will move your bowels. Try to focus on eating raw fruit and vegetables as much as possible. Combine filtered water with freshly squeezed lemon juice, cayenne pepper, and pure maple syrup for what’s commonly referred to as the Mastr Cleanse tonic; this is an excellent detox drink. Choose a time period – like a long weekend–for your detox program; it’ll be easier to handle if you make it a short commitment. Don’t jump off the bandwagon and back into unhealthy eating habits right away or you’ll jolt your system. Detox whenever you start to feel sluggish or weighed down.
